About Ryde

Located on the North East of the Isle of Wight, Ryde is the largest town with its port the passenger gateway to mainland UK. Wightlink ferries operate from Ryde to Portsmouth Harbour, and Hovertravel offer hovercraft transport to Southsea (Portsmouth), and a ‘Hoverbus’ service which connects with the Hovercraft at Southsea and takes passengers into Portsmouth.

Getting to Ryde Ferry Port

By Car

From Newport, follow the A3054 to Ryde. Once in Ryde, make your way to the Esplanade. For the hovercraft, the Hoverport is situated next to the Ice Rink. Wightlink ferries leave from the Pier Head but there is currenlty no vehicle access directly to the pier, you may either walk along the pier or take the train to or from Ryde Esplanade.

By Train

South West Trains Island Line runs direct trains from Brading, Sandown, Shanklin and other stations to Ryde Pier Head. For Wightlink ferries, National Rail services go directly to the ferry terminal (Ryde Pier Head Station is within the same interchange as the ferry terminal).

By Bus

Several of the Southern Vectis bus routes operate to Ryde Esplanade. From there you can walk to the Terminal.

Café/ Bar

A Costa Coffee Shop is located at the Wightlink terminal. A Costa Coffee Express machine can be found within the Hovertravel terminal.

Disabled Facilities

Disabled toilet facilities are available at both terminals. Please advise of any special requirements at the time of booking. For passengers travelling with Hovertravel, please note that motorised wheelchairs must have a sealed battery. Hovertravel cannot carry motorised scooters or people movers however they are able to provide a wheelchair (free of charge) for travel between ports.

Parking at Ryde Ferry Port

Wightlink Ferries: Car parking at the Terminal is available. A toll charge of £1 per vehicle is payable for cars, light vans and motorcycles. This must be payable in cash at the coin-operated machine situated at the entrance to Ryde Pier. The toll charge entitles you to up to one hour’s free parking. There is no charge for pedestrians or cyclists. For longer stays, please buy your parking ticket from the Pay & Display machine or Wightlink Ticket Office.

Hovertravel: Quay Road in Ryde has a large pay and display car park which is owned and operated by the Isle of Wight Council. Located next to Ryde Hoverport it has provision for long and short stay parking.
